DAMASCUS, Syria – Syria's state-run TV says a group of armed people attacked an ambulance in a southern city that has seen deadly anti-government protests, killing four people.
The station says "an armed gang" attacked the ambulance and killed a doctor, a paramedic, a driver and a policeman on Wednesday. The attack took place in the southern city of Daraa, where security forces killed seven protesters over the weekend.
The latest attack is likely to raise tension in Daraa as security forces are now expected to intensify their crackdown on anti-government activists.
The TV says security forces were able "to kill and wound" some of the attackers and are chasing those who were able to flee. The report didn't provide more details.
