Rally violence kills 3 in central Nigeria

At least three people are dead in central Nigeria after a fight over where a political rally would be held for a former military ruler running for president.

Sanusi Sani of the Young Muslims Congress told The Associated Press that four others were injured in the fighting Monday in Jos, an epicenter of religious and ethnic violence in central Nigeria. Sani said the fighting started after local authorities refused to allow the party of former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari to hold a rally at one point in the city.

In January, three people were killed and several others were wounded in Jos when a meeting of a political party aligned with Buhari collapsed into violence.

Thousands have died around Jos there in recent years.
