Czech-ex president Havel released from hospital

A hospital official says former Czech President Vaclav Havel has been released after being treated for bronchitis.

Havel was taken to Prague's military hospital with an acute respiratory infection on March 8. Hospital spokeswoman Jitka Zinke said Havel was discharged Sunday.

The 74-year-old has a history of respiratory problems dating back to his years in communist jails. He has suffered from chronic bronchitis since one-third of his right lung was removed in December 1996 following the discovery of a cancerous tumor.

The former dissident playwright was released in time to attend Tuesday's premiere of his directorial debut "Leaving," a movie based on his last play about a leader leaving politics after years in power.
