CASTRIES, St. Lucia – The armed robbery of three gay Americans in St. Lucia has officials there scrambling to assure visitors that the Caribbean island is safe.
The men say masked bandits broke into their cottage in Soufriere on March 3, beat them and tied them up.
Victim Michael Baker says on Facebook that the robbers made slurs against gays, white people and Americans, and threatened to kill them if they didn't leave the island.
Police report the robbers took about $1,800 and some personal items. One victim was treated for minor injuries.
Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet has apologized to the three men from Atlanta.
He calls the attack "unacceptable."
Police said Monday that two suspects were arrested. Three more are being sought.
