Tunisia's Interior Ministry says it has lifted a curfew imposed a month ago amid deadly protests that overthrew the longtime president.

The ministry said, however, that it is extending a state of emergency amid uncertainty about the country's future.

The curfew was imposed Jan. 13, the day before President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia in the wake of clashes between police and protesters. The hours of the overnight curfew were gradually reduced in ensuing weeks.

The Interior Ministry says in a statement posted on its website Tuesday that "the curfew has been lifted all over the country."
