An 88-year-old Brazilian woman believed to be dead was place in a coffin to be buried.

There was one thing: Maria das Dores da Conceicao was alive, and woke up four hours later in a funeral home.

She was rushed back to the hospital, and died two days later, the O Globo newspaper reported, citing a release from the Ipatinga mayor's office..

Now police in Minas Gerais state want to know if poor medical care and the misdiagnosis contributed to her death.

The mayor's statement did not immediately identify a cause of death. It did say, however, that she suffered from hypertension.

Calls to the Ipatinga hospital, police and mayor's office were not answered late Sunday.
