A Polish official says the United States has offered to periodically station F-16 fighter jets and Hercules planes in Poland starting in 2013 for joint exercises.

Roman Kuzniar, an adviser to Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, said Thursday the U.S. has proposed sending 16 fighter jets and four Hercules transport planes to Poland to enhance cooperation between the two air forces of the NATO allies.

Kuzniar's remarks, which were published on Komorowski's website, came a day after the Polish president and President Barack Obama met at the White House.

A White House statement issued after that meeting said that the countries would strengthen cooperation between their air forces. Washington, however, has not yet revealed details of the deal.
