MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia's top militant group is threatening attacks against Burundi and Uganda, months after bombings in Uganda's capital killed 76 people watching the World Cup final on television.
Al-Shabab senior leader Sheikh Fuad Shogole says the attacks would be retaliation for the East African nations' participation in an African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for July's attacks in Uganda.
Medics also said Sunday that an overnight attack by Islamic militants against government soldiers in Mogadishu left at least 7 dead. Ambulance service chief Ali Muse says medics also treated 15 wounded people.
The Somali government controls only a few blocks of the capital. Somalia has not had a fully functioning government since 1991.
