HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — An official says a mass grave has been found containing the remains of 11 communist soldiers killed during the Vietnam War.

Dinh Van Phu of the military command in central Dak Nong province says it took excavators nearly two weeks to recover the remains.

Phu said Friday the communist soldiers were believed killed during an attack on a base of the U.S.-backed South Vietnamese army in 1966.

Phu says two former South Vietnamese soldiers who fought in the battle informed authorities of the grave.

An estimated 3 million Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans were killed in the war, which ended in 1975 when communist North Vietnamese forces overran Saigon, the former capital of South Vietnam, now known as Ho Chi Minh City.
