The Duchess of York -- who bemoaned her financial state during a secretly taped News of the World sting -- is in serious debt according to U.K. newspaper reports Sunday.
But what isn't clear is exactly how much the Duchess, formerly known as Sarah Ferguson, owes.
News of the World, which broke the cash-for-access story a week ago revealing the Duchess was trying to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for $723,150, reported Sunday that she is "on the brink of ruin" with 200 creditors.
The newspaper reported the 50-year-old, who was in the U.S. until Saturday, "faces financial ruin owing as much as $4 million".
One insider revealed: "She's so close to it all collapsing. If everyone she owed money suddenly asked for it back she'd be finished."
Meanwhile the Mail on Sunday reported that the Duchess of York has admitted being $1 million in debt.
The newspaper said she held a meeting with Prince Andrew at Royal Lodge, the home she shares with the Duke at Windsor, on Saturday afternoon at which she detailed her debts.
The couple's children Beatrice, 21, and Eugenie, 20 are understood to have been at the family financial summit.
News of the World reported that the Duchess has paid back the $27,000 down-payment she was filmed taking in its sting. The money has been donated it to Great Ormand Street to buy a portable ultrasound machine.
An interview which Ferguson did with Oprah Winfrey will be screened in the U.S. on Tuesday.
