The Buffalo Sabres signed restricted free agent forward Mark Mancari to a one-year contract Saturday.

Financial details of the deal were not released.

The Sabres assigned the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Mancari to the Portland Pirates of the AHL, pending waivers.

Mancari led the Pirates in scoring last season with 29 goals and 38 assists in 73 games. The Sabres' seventh-round choice, 207th overall, in the 2004 entry draft, had a goal and an assist in seven NHL games last season.

The Sabres also assigned forward Jeff Cowan and defenseman Joe DiPenta to Portland, pending waivers. Goalie Jhonas Enroth, forwards Philip Gogulla and Felix Schutz and defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani were also sent to the Pirates.
