Fran Crippen and Emily Brunemann will represent the U.S. in the 5- and 10-kilometer open water swimming events at the world championships in Rome next month.
Crippen, the Pan American champion from Philadelphia, and Brunemann, the 2008 NCAA champion from Crescent Springs, Ky., earned spots in the 10k by winning races in Fort Myers, Fla. They also will swim in the 5k.
Andrew Gemmell of Wilmington, Del., who finished second in Florida, will compete in the 5k and 10k, while women's second-place finisher Eva Fabian of Keene, N.H., will compete in the 10k and 25k.
Sean Ryan of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Alex Meyer of Ithaca, N.Y., will compete in the men's 25k, and Emily Hanson of Bloomington, Ill., will swim the women's 5k and 25k.
The open water team will be coached by Catherine Vogt.
The races will be July 19-25 in the harbor of Ostia, Italy.
