Police arrest suspect in slaying of father-to-be

Thursday, May 15, 2008

CATONSVILLE, Md. —  Police say they have charged a teenager with murder in the Mother's Day stabbing death of a 19-year-old man who was refueling his car to take his wife to the hospital to give birth.

Daniel Thompson Jr., 17, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carlos Santay-Carrillo. He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Baltimore County police say Thompson stabbed Santay-Carrillo several times Sunday after demanding money.

Police say a tip and surveillance video led them to Thompson.

Police, prosecutors and jail officials did not immediately respond to messages seeking the name of an attorney for Thompson.

Santay-Carrillo's wife gave birth to a son.
