Friday, June 06, 2008
Legislation the Democratic-led Congress is expected to address before November elections.
Good prospects for passage of bills to:
_Override veto of $290 billion farm bill.
_Ban lead in toys.
_Boost college benefits in the GI bill.
Trouble on the horizon for bills to:
_Address rising gas prices, including a windfall profits tax on oil companies.
_Give health insurance to 10 million children.
_Change American policy in the Iraq war.
_Slow global warming by cutting emissions.
_Tighten rules on the government's domestic eavesdropping.
_Bring the nation's free-trade agreements virtually to a halt.
_Ban workplace discrimination against gays, lesbians and bisexuals.
