SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Subtle Aly caught I Promise at the wire Wednesday to win the $100,000-added Schuylerville Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on opening day at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by Edgar Prado, the chestnut filly ran six furlongs in 1:11.06 over a fast track, paying $10.20, $5.70 and $4.
I Promise returned $9 and $5.60 under Eibar Coa, while Blitzing paid $4.10 to show.
The Richard Dutrow Jr. trainee broke slowly but gained good position behind the front-running I Promise, stalking her along the backstretch. She made a move during a neck-and-neck stretch duel and outnosed her competitors to remain unbeaten in two career starts.
"We got lucky and we're very happy to win the race," Dutrow said. "It was a thrilling race, great for opening day. She showed up the right way, and we're very happy with her."
Subtle Aly will be pointed toward the $250,000 Spinaway in September, Dutrow said.
