A man having marital problems fatally shot his three young children then killed himself Tuesday after leaving a message about the shootings on his wife's cell phone, authorities said.
The bodies of the 35-year-old father, his 4-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 5 and 8, were discovered in the family's rural home, which had been set ablaze, said Kevin Rowland, chief investigator for the state medical examiner's office.
The man and his wife, who was at work when the shootings took place, were having marital problems, Garvin County Sheriff Bill Roady said.
"He did leave a message on his wife's cell phone saying that he had already killed the children and was planning to kill himself,"Roady said.
The man doused the house with gasoline before setting the fire, Roady said.
The names of the victims weren't immediately released.
The home is located four miles west of Pauls Valley, about 60 miles south of Oklahoma City.
