Skywatchers caught a glimpse of dozens of meteors strewn across the sky early Friday morning as the Perseids hit their peak.
The Perseids are known as one of the most impressive annual meteor shower displays.
Discovered during the American Civil War by astronomers Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle, debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet colliding with the planet and burning up in the atmosphere provides the spectacular light show.
For those with clear skies, the meteors glowed against the dark night sky.
Those who missed out on the stunning display may have an opportunity to catch them Friday night into Saturday morning.
