An Indian military aircraft has gone missing over the Bay of Bengal Friday morning, the Indian Air Force reports.
Over 20 people are on board the plane, according to BBC News.
The plane, an Antonov-32 aircraft, took off near Chennai, India, around 8:30 a.m. local time and was headed for the Andaman and Nicobar islands when it went missing over the Bay of Bengal.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms were over the Bay of Bengal during the time the plane went missing, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Jason Nicholls.
Search operations are currently underway, but additional showers and storms could hinder rescue efforts.
