Strong winds with coastal gales will whip the northern U.K. Wednesday night and Thursday with the passing of a strong depression north of Scotland.
Wind gusts in the northern half of Scotland can reach 80 to 100 km/hr from the west and south-west. However, 120-km/h wind gusts cannot be ruled out in Orkney.
Along with the gusty winds will come showery outbreaks, especially in the North West of Scotland.
Southward from Glasgow and Edinburgh, meanwhile, wind speeds will drop off, though the wind will still shape the overall weather perception on Thursday.
For much of England and Wales, however, moderate to fresh breezes will hold sway on Thursday with increasing sunny intervals by afternoon. This dry, breezy weather will follow some mainly morning rainy outbreaks on Wednesday.
