Madrid, Paris, Berlin Face Another Blast of Heat

After a comfortable start to the weekend across western Europe, the new week will bring another blast of heat.

Ahead of an unusually strong storm system set to spin northwest of the British Isles, a ridge of high pressure will build across western Europe to start the new week. The result will be yet another surge of heat from the south.

Temperatures will not be as extreme around Madrid as in recent days through Saturday, but temperatures are set to soar once again on Sunday as the heat builds across Spain and into southern France.

The rest of western Europe will see temperatures begin to climb to end the weekend. The heat will then wait to peak until the following couple of days.

Temperatures will return to the middle 30s C (middle 90s F) in Paris on Monday with temperatures flirting with the 32 C (90 F) mark in Brussels. Highs in the lower 20s C (lower to middle 70s F) are more common this time of year.

Weather Overview for Europe

On Tuesday, highs in the lower 20s C (within a degree or two of 90s F) will spread to Berlin, Munich, Prague and Warsaw.

When the heat takes hold, residents are reminded to drink plenty of water and never to leave kids or pets unattended in a sealed car. Strenuous activities should be avoided during the midday and afternoon hours, the hottest times of the day. If that is not possible, be sure to take frequent breaks.

Northwestern Europe, including Paris and Berlin, will welcome the fact that a cold front will knock down the heat as quickly as it surges northward. This front will track from France to Germany Monday night to Tuesday, accompanied by showers and thunderstorms and followed by noticeable cooling.

"There is concern for some of the thunderstorms to be strong," stated AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys. "That is especially true in western Germany later Tuesday."

The front will not be able to sweep the heat away from Madrid by midweek and will not mean the end of sizzling temperatures for northwestern Europe the rest of next week.

"There are signs of more heat returning later in the week," added Roys. At the same time, heat will build throughout the Balkans.
