Tropical Depression One-E formed early Thursday morning in the eastern Pacific.
The system is the first tropical depression of the young season in the eastern Pacific, where hurricane season runs from May 15 to Nov. 30.
The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm later on Thursday. If it does, it will be given the name Andres.
The storm could even become a Category 1 hurricane this weekend.
At this point, the storm is expected to stay well away from the Mexican coastline. However, by late this weekend or early next week, the storm may be close enough to generate higher surf.
