Mild Weather to Leave UK Before Grand National Day

The 2015 Crabbie's Grand National Festival is underway amid perfect weather, but cooler air will return before Saturday's main race.

On Friday, jockeys and spectators at the festival will continue to enjoy the mild spell that has transpired across the United Kingdom.

Temperatures on Friday at the Aintree Racecourse (located north of Liverpool) will rise into the upper teens C (near 65 F) for Ladies Day. A high around 12.2 C (54 F) is more common in April.

A breeze from the south at 25 to 35 kph (10 to 20 mph) will blow as sunshine mixes with clouds. Despite the clouds, dry weather will hold.

Those who opt not to wear a jacket on Friday may want to rethink that decision for Saturday's Grand National Day.

Following the passage of a cold front and a brief shower Friday night, seasonable cooler air will arrive and hold Saturday's high to the lower teens C (lower 50s F). Brisk winds will create even lower RealFeel® Temperatures.

A brief shower will return to northwestern England and western Scotland Saturday night, but these showers should remain north of Aintree Racecourse. Episodes of sunshine will instead prevail.

The return of more numerous showers to Aintree Racecourse should hold off until Sunday, after the conclusion of the Grand National Festival.
