Boston Sets Snowiest Winter on Record With 108.6 Inches

After a weekend storm dropped more than 2 inches of snow across the region, Boston has officially endured the snowiest season on record this winter.

Breaking the 1995-1996 record of 107.6 inches, Boston Logan International Airport received a colossal 108.6 inches of snow this season.

The city endured a barrage of snowstorms that severely hindered travel throughout the area. Streets and sidewalks became home to massive snowpiles as removal crews struggled to keep up with the continual punches of heavy snow.

As of Feb. 9, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said state crews had cleared enough snow from streets to fill Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, 90 times.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority suffered severe delays and operated below full operation for much of the winter. Area residents worked relentlessly to remove snow from roofs of houses and businesses as the weight of the packed snow proved hazardous.

Still, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh took pride in the city's new record even after the widespread problems it caused.
