A major pileup has shut down both lanes of I-94 in Michigan near Battle Creek amid wintry weather late Friday morning.
Between 50 and 70 vehicles were involved in the pileup, according to Michigan State Police. One fatality has been confirmed.
As many as ten people involved in the crash are being treated at nearby Bronson hospitals in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
It was not immediately known if weather was a factor in the crash.
"There were heavy lake-effect snow squalls in the area Friday morning and midday, originating from off of Lake Michigan," AccuWeather.com Expert Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
"The nature of these squalls would be to quickly coat roads and bring a sudden reduction in visibility."
A semi truck hauling approximately 40 pounds of fireworks was involved in the crash beside a semi that is on fire, the Michigan State Police said in a press release.
Emergency crews are working to extract this semi to resolve any further issues, and fire crews are working to extinguish the fires.
