A 7.4-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of El Salvador at approximately 11:51 EDT Monday, according to the USGS.
The earthquake may cause hazardous tsunami waves along the coasts of Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador.
Those near the coasts of these countries should take action in the case that a tsunami hits.
A destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected at this time for Hawaii, Alaska, or other areas bordering the Pacific Ocean.
