Severe Storms Rage From Texas to Missouri, Cut Power to More Than 300,000

Severe storms raked across areas from Texas to Missouri and Kentucky on Thursday, unleashing damaging winds, large hail and a couple of tornadoes.

The winds were strong enough to down trees, flip cars and cut power to hundreds of thousands of customers.

Besides the severe weather, very heavy rain fell, allowing new record rainfall amounts to be set in some communities.

The rain and storms canceled hundreds of flights from major travel hubs, including Chicago and Dallas.
