6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Reported in Chile

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake, with a depth of 19.9 miles, hit the region of Valparasio, Chile Saturday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reports. The earthquake was originally reported as a 6.6 magnitude, but the USGS later downgraded it to a 6.4.

The Associated Press reports that there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage from the quake which occurred Saturday evening local time.

There was no tsunami warning issued at the time.

The USGS reported that quake occurred 11 miles west-northwest of a community called, Hacienda La Calera, 20 miles south-southwest of La Ligua, Chile, and 67 miles northwest of Santiago, Chile.

Earlier today, the seismological service reported a magnitude 5.4 earthquake, with a depth of 6.4 miles, 29 miles SE of Abdanan, Iran.
