INFOGRAPHIC: Heavy Rainfall Submerges Areas From Detroit to Boston

Heavy rainfall made its way across the United States earlier in the week, bringing flash flooding to major metropolitan areas from the Midwest to New England.

"A potent low pressure system tracked across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes before re-developing off the southern shore of Long Island Wednesday morning," Meteorologist Brian Edwards said. "This storm system slowed as it tracked into the eastern part of the country, producing several batches of very heavy rains."

Flash flooding was widespread, affecting many cities from Detroit through Boston.

"Significant rainfall was recorded across this region, with the maximum amount occurring in Islip, New York, where over 13.5 inches of rain fell," Edwards said.
