One person died in a French tourist plane crash Saturday afternoon in Page, Arizona, officials said.

Five others were injured after the plane crashed about 500 feet short of the runway in a landing during windy conditions at the Page Municipal Airport, The Associated Press reported.

It was 78 degrees F with a broken cloud deck at 10,000 to 15,000 feet at the time, Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

"There were southwest winds of 10 mph with gusts to around 20 mph at 3:00 pm their time; no gusts were reported at 4 p.m.," he said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is assisting in the investigation.
