PHOTOS: Nations Greet Spring With Vibrant Colors, Festivities

As the Northern Hemisphere officially transitioned from winter to spring on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 12:57 p.m. EDT, many nations around the globe welcomed the new season with open arms.

While portions of the United States will still experience some wintry precipitation, already signs of spring are appearing. In the Northeast, citizens anxiously await the blossoming of the capital's 3,000 Yoshino cherry trees during the National Cherry Blossom festival.

However, across the Atlantic, spring is in full force across Europe with flowers and trees abloom. In Germany, residents of Gimmeldingen enjoyed the changeover to warmer weather with their annual almond blossom festival.

Even farther west, the colors of spring adorned the streets and faces of citizens and visitors in Nepal, the Philippines and India as each country rejoiced the arrival of spring during the Holi festival.

In parts of the Middle East, the beginning of spring coincides with the new year, Friday, March 21, 2014, sparking elaborate fire displays in Iran to commemorate both the new year and the ancient Festival of Fire.
