A brief warm-up is on the way this weekend, but winter temperatures will return in time for the New Year.
Along with sunshine, temperatures will gradually warm from the upper 30s on Friday to the upper 40s by Sunday in the New York City area.
A storm coming up the coast could put a damper on the end of the weekend. This bit of rain and extra clouds could keep temperatures down on Sunday, in the mid-40s.
However, just before it's time to ring in the New Year, a cold front will sweep the I-95 corridor and bring back the chilly temperatures.
Monday and Tuesday will be more winter-like with high temperatures will struggling to reach 30 degrees on Tuesday.
For those watching the ball drop at Times Square, the dry weather is expected to continue through New Year's Eve on Tuesday.
