Tranquil Weather Before the Storm in Europe This Week

High pressure settled into western Europe will keep it dry across much of the continent through the end of the week. However, the United Kingdom is bracing for a storm for the weekend.

Following the rounds of heavy rain across Italy the last few weeks, this will be a welcomed change for southern Europe.

Temperatures are expected to be near average in places like Rome, Madrid and Budapest with sunshine into the weekend. Places across France and the United Kingdom will have clouds and even some showers moving in by Friday.

Some places in central Europe have had very little precipitation so far in December. One day of a little rain and snow in Budapest has the capital with only 3% of the average. Madrid has been completely dry in December so far, compared to the normal 0.50 of an inch.

The biggest concern going into the weekend will be the chance of gusty winds across Ireland and the United Kingdom this weekend. AccuWeather.com meteorologists continue to monitor a storm brewing in the northern Atlantic that threatens wind gusts over 50 mph in Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England.

The exact timing and location of the highest wind gusts are difficult to pin down this far out, but Saturday afternoon and evening seem to have the strongest winds.
