'Black Friday' Weather Fairly Tranquil Across US

As shoppers gear up for the annual Black Friday shopping spree after Thanksgiving, the weather will be generally quiet across the United States.

As many as 97 million shoppers plan to shop on Black Friday, according to a holiday spending survey conducted for the National Retail Federation.

Following the expected East Coast storm, a large area of high pressure will set up shop in the central and eastern United States, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Eric Leister said.

"It will produce drier weather," he said.

It will be dry and chilly across the Northeast. Dry conditions are also expected in the Plains and Pacific Northwest.

The exceptions will be in California where an area of low pressure will bring light rain or showers from Los Angeles to San Francisco, Leister said.

Some showers are also possible in Florida from Jacksonville to Miami as an easterly flow sets up across the state.

A weak low pressure system could bring snow to far northern Minnesota to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Leister said.

The National Retail Federation survey polled 6,201 consumers and was conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics from Nov. 1-7, 2013. The consumer poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.3 percentage points.
