Two Dead, Two Missing in Florida Coast Plane Crash

The search is ongoing for two people who are missing after a Learjet 35 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday evening near Fort Lauderdale.

The plane is believed to have gone down 3 miles from the coast at around 8 p.m. EST on Tuesday while en route to Cozumel, Mexico, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Around the time of the incident, visibility of about 10 miles was recorded at Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Showers were in the area earlier in the day, but they had ceased by the evening, yielding cloudy skies and calm winds.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

As rescue efforts continue Wednesday, showers may be in the area throughout the day. Times of clouds and sun will punctuate the afternoon hours.

The bodies of two others aboard the jet have been recovered by the Coast Guard. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
