A magnitude 7.3 earthquake has been recorded of the eastern coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports. The quake occurred at 2:10 a.m. local time Saturday.
Following the quake, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for several coastal regions of Japan.
No tsunami damage is expected, the agency said, but a slight change in sea level may be observed in some areas.
The USGS noted that there is not threat to the West Coast of the United States, or Hawaii.
