The return of cooler air to Boston will coincide with the start of the 2013 World Series.
The World Series is headed back to Boston Wednesday evening, when the city's Red Sox will take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
At that time, cooler air will be pouring across New England after mild days unfold for Monday and Tuesday.
The cooldown will actually begin during the daylight hours of Wednesday, while a developing coastal storm parallels the Northeast coast.
How close that storm tracks to the coast will determine how wet of a day Wednesday will become.
The chill that follows for Thursday and Friday will create daytime highs in the near 50 degrees with nighttime lows within a couple degrees of 40. AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures will be even colder as brisk winds blow.
The first snowflakes of the season are also headed to the Appalachians this week and will remain west of Boston.
There are signs that even colder air, accompanied by gusty winds, will reach the city around the end of the month.
