The United States has been spared any major impacts from tropical systems so far this hurricane season; however, across the Pacific, Taiwan has not been as lucky.
So far, tropical systems named Trami, Soulik and Kong Rey have slammed Taiwan. Soulik was the strongest and most damaging system, causing 9 fatalities, destroying over 200 households and knocking out power to over 800,000 homes.
Another brewing system will head straight for Taiwan later this week on Thursday or Friday. This system will likely strengthen along its path over the very warm waters of the northern Philippine Sea as it encounters favorable atmospheric conditions.
Those with interests in the area should pay close attention to both the strength and path of this system. Preparations should be underway soon, if not now, to prepare for flooding, high winds, damaging surf and power outages.
