A surge of robust tropical air pushing across the Southwest has created a slow-moving storm for the region. Severe thunderstorms led to flooding downpours that rushed through roads and neighborhoods across many desert suburbs.
Meanwhile, storms in the Denver area piled up snowlike levels of hail that had residents taking their shovels to the driveways.
San Juan County, Utah, got over a half an inch of rain in under an hour overnight. Emergency managers reported flash flooding across Silver City, N.M., as 1.2 inches of rain fell in an hour in the county.
Areas across the Four Corners region continue to see rapidly accumulating rain amounts and risks of flash flooding.
