Extreme Heat Over for the United Kingdom

After another couple of very warm days to begin the week, much of the United Kingdom will experience much more comfortable air over the next few days. However, the lower temperatures will still be above average.

London's high temperature soared to 33.5 degrees C (92 degrees F) on Monday and 29.6 degrees C (85 degrees F) on Tuesday. The average high temperature this time of year is 21.7 degrees C (71 degrees F). Monday's high in London was the highest temperature recorded in the United Kingdom so far this year.

The forecast high in London on Thursday is 24 degrees C (75 degrees F), and the high on Friday is expected to be 27 degrees C (81 degrees F). Over the weekend, highs are forecast to be 27-28 degrees C (low 80s degrees F).

The reason for a change in the weather pattern is that the more comfortable air is streaming in from the Atlantic Ocean, whereas the previous hot air was originating from over Europe.

A slow-moving area of low pressure west of the United Kingdom will keep the winds southwest, thus off the Atlantic, and will not allow any more extreme heat events for this forecast period.
