The National Weather Service has confirmed that a speculated tornado from 1:30 p.m. EDT near Windsor Locks, Conn., was in fact a tornado. Survey investigations to determine the magnitude of the tornado and the extent of the damage are still ongoing.
The NWS estimated maximum wind speed up to 86 mph, classifying the tornado as a possible EF1. The tornado rampaged approximately 2.5 miles but no injuries or fatalities have yet been recorded.
So far, damage includes, numerous downed trees, some on houses and cars, flattened tobacco crop and at the town's Sports World, the sports bubble collapsed and blew into the road. There have been additional reports of a semi-truck blowing over on Interstate 91 south.
