Thousands Gather for Yoga in Times Square Solstice Event

As the summer solstice brings in the official start of summer June 21, Times Square in New York will convert to one of the world's largest yoga studios with the 11th annual Solstice in Times Square event.

Yogis that join the outdoor event will see near-perfect conditions for the duration of the day, according to Expert Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek.

The first session kicked off at 7:30 a.m., when temperatures in the city were a comfortable 64 degrees. Humidity will remain low throughout the day with a light breeze.

Around 2:00 p.m., the city will likely hit its high of 82 degrees before dropping in the evening to a comfortable 75 degrees.

"Solstice is an experiment in balance: The sun standing still in the sky on the longest day of the year, and thousands of yogis standing still, and being still, in the middle of the world's busiest crossroad," President of Times Square Alliance and Co-Founder of the event, Tim Tompkins.

"It's a metaphor for calming the mind amidst the madness of modern life."
