Severe Storm Risk for Ohio Valley Tuesday Evening

There is a risk of disruptive and locally damaging thunderstorms from southern Illinois to southern Indiana, southern Ohio and northern Kentucky into Tuesday evening.

The storms could affect cities from St. Louis to Evansville, Ind., Louisville, Ky., Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio to Huntington, W.Va.

The greatest threats from the storms are frequent lightning strikes and damaging wind gusts. A few of the storms could also produce sizable hail and flash flooding.

A front sagging southward into sufficiently warm and humid air will be enough to set off spotty showers and thunderstorms. The presence of strong winds aloft will allow some of the storms to become severe.

Slightly cooler and less humid air will settle over the region late Tuesday night and Wednesday, ending the risk for locally violent storms.
