The 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 12:12 p.m. EDT.
During the pre-race events on Friday, rain will not be an issue. "It will be really nice on Friday with cooler than average temperatures and mostly sunny skies," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Erik Pindrock.
The temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 60s throughout the day.
"Saturday, some clouds will move in and temperatures will remain in the 60s," Pindrock said. There will only be a slight chance of precipitation later in the evening.
During the race on Sunday, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s with a high of 70 forecast for the day.
"The skies will be variably cloudy with a risk of a few showers," Pindrock said.
Should rain fall during the race, delays will be necessary. "We deal with rain all the time," said an unofficially spokesperson at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway who declined to be identified.
"We will use track dryers and postponements in the event of rain," he said. "The cars can not use different tires and run in the rain due to the oval shape of the track."
