A storm pushing out of the Colorado Rockies Thursday afternoon will lead to some potentially strong or severe thunderstorms into the evening hours.
Thunderstorms are expected to fire up in western Nebraska and move eastward throughout the afternoon. Cities in the greatest risk area include, Sioux Falls, N.D., Norfolk to North Platte, Neb., and the northern suburbs of Goodland, Kan.
The majority of these thunderstorms will not be severe; however, there is the potential for isolated severe activity. The main severe threat with these storms will be potentially damaging wind gusts and small- or large-sized hail.
This is not the only area across the country that could see locally severe weather Thursday afternoon and into the night. Just east of the area in northern Texas that was devastated by tornadoes Wednesday evening, thunderstorms will again erupt in the southern Plains.
