Heavy snow fall caused Interstate 5, north of Los Angeles through the Grapevine to close in both directions, according to KABC-TV.
AccuWeather Expert Senior Meteorologist Ken Clark said that heavy snow showers throughout the afternoon and at times were very heavy.
"Visibility was highly variable. It could have been down to a quarter of a mile in heavy snow for a short period of time," Clark said.
Conditions are expected to clear later tonight, according to Clark.
"Temperatures will be getting colder and I can see road problems until tomorrow morning from water/slush freezing," he said.
Clark said that these conditions in the northern Los Angeles area are not rare and that there are a few storms every winter.
