Mandatory Evacuations Lifted in Southern California

California Mudslide

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, California -- Los Angeles County authorities have lifted mandatory evacuation orders for more than 500 foothill homes as a winter storm moves off and the threat of a mudslide recedes.

County fire Capt. Mark Savage says residents of La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Acton and two canyons are being notified Wednesday morning that they can return to their homes.

Savage says Tuesday's storm dumped less rain than expected in areas burned by last year's wildfire in the San Gabriel Mountains and there was no significant debris flow.

With the National Weather Service predicting seven days of good weather, officials decided it was safe for folks to return.

Forty-three homes in La Canada Flintridge were damaged by a mudslide last week and work crews are still cleaning up.
