Authorities have released the names of the 26 victims killed when a gunman opened fire inside a Connecticut elementary school.

"We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from so many people," the family of Grace McDonnell, who was killed in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, said in a statement. "Our daughter Grace was the love and light of our family. Words cannot adequately express our sense of loss."

Investigators say teacher Victoria Soto, 27, was shot to death while shielding her students from danger, Jim Wiltsie, Soto’s cousin, told ABC News. Soto reportedly hid some students in a bathroom or closet, ensuring they were safe.
Sandy Creek Elementary School student Jesse Lewis, 6, was among those killed in the Dec. 14, 2012, rampage that left 26 people dead. Newtown, Conn., deli owner Angel Salazar told The Wall Street Journal that Jesse Lewis "was always friendly; he always liked to talk.”
