Tragic Boating Accident in Jupiter Inlet, Fla., Captured on Film.
A tragic boating accident in Florida's Jupiter Inlet shows the dangers of the sea. Thomas Henry, 61, captain of the Waterdog, was caught on film Sept. 3 as waves smash his boat as it crosses a sandbar and knocks the seasoned boat captain around on deck, finally tossing him overboard. WaterDog Encounters Wave
Here Henry is seen on the bridge and in control of the 48' Garlington, Waterdog. Browning turned his attention to what he believed was the only boat in the water.
Henry Hangs On
Browning captures the Waterdog as Henry approaches the first wave. The Waterdog gets caught on top of the swell.
Boat Rolls On Side
Henry, a former airline pilot and seasoned boater, can be seen trying to remain steady on the Waterdog. The boat gets rolled on its side by the wave.
Boat Nearly Tips
The Waterdog, seen nearly on its side, was holding six passengers.
Waves Throw Captain
Browning captures Henry’s fall assuming that it is debris from the boat. He quickly realizes that the debris is actually Henry.
Captain Falls Off
Henry who lost his footing, is thrown from the bridge of the boat.
Captain Hits Deck
Henry lands face down on the deck “with such impact my heart sank,” said Browning.
Henry Thrown From Deck
Browning called 911 and continued shooting and Henry was thrown from the deck.
Captain Clings to Boat
Despite the injuries from the fall Henry tries to remain attached to the vessel.
Captain Falls into Water
Henry is tossed from the side of the Waterdog and Browning and the surfer alert the lifeguards that there is a man overboard.
Boat Turns Around
The boat turns around and heads back into the waves.
Deck Mate Spotted
The deck mate appears first on deck to attempt to control the vessel.
Rescuers Reach Waterdog
First to respond to the scene, the small lifeguard rescue boat arrives.
Deck Mate Uninjured
According to Browning it takes the crew 14 minutes to find Henry, none of the other passengers report injuries.
Mate Gains Control
Gaining full control of the boat, the mate is able to truen the baot inalnd to dock. Captain Thomas Henry, 61, passed away on Sept. 5, after a tragic boating accident on Sept. 3, left him on life support. Henry, who leaves behind his wife and brother, was a Charter Boat Captain on the Waterdog for over 20 years.
