Just six months ago, Seaside Height's famous boardwalk was being rebuilt from scratch after Sandy had left it badly damaged.![Sandy_12_15.JPG]()
The construction was done around the clock to get the boardwalk ready for the summer season and was completed just before Memorial Day Weekend. However, despite the state's best efforts to be up and running, tourism along the Jersey Shore saw a decline this past summer.![Sandy_12_16.jpg]()

Mantoloking, N.J., located on the same barrier island as Seaside Heights, was nearly decimated by Superstorm Sandy leaving many homes along to coast to be razed.![Sandy_12__19_]()

Mantoloking, N.J.: Dune building is underway along most of the coast line in an attempt to fortify the coast from future storms.![Sandy_12__22_]()
However, rebuilding has begun along the Jersey Shore, with homeowners rebuilding...![Sandy_12__27_]()
and municipalities, such as Ortley Beach, N.J., rebuilding their infrastructure.![sandy_six__7_]()
Another hard-hit area was Union Beach, N.J., located on the Raritan Bay, seen here in a photo from April 2013. Popular local bar and restaurant Jakeabob's on the bay was completely destroyed after Sandy reared its ugly head through the coast.![Sandy_12__14_]()
One year since the storm, and the debris has been removed from the property, but due a low claim offered by the insurance company, owner Gigi Liaguno-Dorr will not be able to rebuild anytime soon.![sandy_six__11_]()
Sandy left debris throughout the streets of Union Beach and leveled many homes. Even large objects like this boat, photographed six months ago, were thrown onto land.![Sandy_12__28_]()
As of this month, the boat has not moved and many lots are still empty.![Sandy_12__4_]()
