A Japanese man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a flight attendant while flying to Hawaii for his honeymoon will soon return to Japan.
Kenji Okamoto received a three-month sentence Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Honolulu. He has already served more than two months and is expected to be released in a few weeks.
Okamoto previously pleaded guilty to interfering with a flight attendant's duties.
Court documents say Okamoto was flying first-class from Osaka for his honeymoon.
The documents say he was intoxicated and got upset when a flight attendant wouldn't take his tray away. Okamoto tried to punch a flight attendant who intervened, and the flight attendant received bruises on his arm from blocking the punch.
Okamoto later apologized while crying. He also apologized in court while bowing.
